Robins Field: Home of Our Model Aviation Club
Overview
Nestled right against the rugged foothills of the San Fernando Valley at the Lopez Canyon Flood Basin (12800 Maclay St), Robin’s Field (operated by OUR Model Aviation Club, AMA #5450) is one of Southern California's premier hidden gems for radio-controlled aviation.
If you are visiting for the first time, prepare to be impressed: the site features a pristine paved runway framed by wide-open skies, dramatic backdrop mountains, and a welcoming community of pilots flying everything from high-speed electric ducted fan (EDF) jets and motor gliders to precision 3D helicopters and FPV drones.
Because it's a private, gated facility managed exclusively for club members, the flight line remains well-organized, uncrowded, and hyper-focused on safety and great flying camaraderie. Shaded benches and picnic tables offer a perfect vantage point to watch the action, making it an incredible destination for anyone passionate about the art and science of model aviation.

Station
Robin’s Field tracks hyper-local wind speed, direction, temperature, and elevation metrics via station KCACALIF53 (Sylmar Mountains, Elev 1378 ft). Located in the canyon gap, this station provides real-time conditions critical for evaluating wind shear and mountain thermals before heading out to the flight line.
