Update:

It is very unfortunate that this field has suffered a shutdown and is no longer active.

Carson Airfield is an AMA registered field (Club #4418) hosted by the Southern California R/C Helicopters (SCRCH) club. It is located near the intersection of the 405 and 710 Freeways in the northern area of Long Beach, Southern California.

Carson is a dedicated helicopter-only airfield because there are no paved runways on site. It features a perimeter fence enclosing 22 acres of sod, grass, and dirt surface, providing a massive, wide-open flight window.

Weather conditions are close to "beach-like" due to its proximity to the ocean (just a couple of miles away). Carson enjoys cool, breezy flying conditions all year long, though it remains subject to overcast mornings, summer heat, and occasional Santa Ana wind events.

Parking is located directly on Carson St. next to the pits. The field is entirely rustic: there are no chairs, electricity hookups, or public bathrooms available on site, so pilots should come prepared with generators, camping chairs, and field gear.

Weather

Station

Carson Airfield utilizes real-time tracking data via station EW4725, a CWOP (Citizens Weather Observer Program) weather station situated 1.5 miles East-NE of the flight line. This station provides hyper-local coastal wind speed, direction, and temperature trends crucial for predicting flight conditions at the site.
