Possible Corrupt Trim Configuration on RealFlight Simulator
I'm trying to figure out a problem with my RC Flight simulator systems.. I have one complete RealFlight G7 instance (each install includes it's own RealFlight controller, "RealFlight R/C Flight Simulator Interlink Elite Controller Only By Futaba G4") installed for the following computers:
- Main TV (Living Room)
- Bedroom TV
- Airfield
The instance at the Airfield is showing that when you plug in a controller, the flight trims start acting inconsistent and the model moves around as if the trims were off when you bring the cyclic stick back to it's center. Re-calibrating the controller does not help. I've also replaced it with another controller and it still does the same thing. I've also taken the controllers that seem faulty and tested them on the Living room TV one and it behaves perfectly. All installed instances are Realflight 7. Can you scan the message boards, forums, social media, and manufacturer websites to see if there are any reports regarding this strange behavior? It sounds like it's not the controller but the software (simulator) itself.. what do you think?
The issue lies in software-side file corruption or profile setting divergence within that specific RealFlight installation, rather than a hardware issue with the Interlink Elite controllers.
Cross-testing the hardware on your Living Room system confirmed the controllers themselves-and their physical potentiometer/trim switch readouts-are healthy.
Root Cause Analysis
In RealFlight 7, digital trims operate through software offsets stored within specific user profile files and controller mapping configurations. When you pull the cyclic stick back and let it return to center, three main software mechanisms can cause the behavior you describe:
- Corrupted Controller Profile (
.inior.xmlFiles): RealFlight saves controller deadzones, active trims, and axis mappings in the system'sDocuments\RealFlight 7directory. If an axis has a corrupted deadzone or non-linear calibration curve saved in that specific profile, releasing the cyclic back to center causes the software to re-apply an asymmetrical offset or jump to an unintended trim value. - Persisted Per-Model Custom Trims: Trim states for customized or edited models in RF7 write to local
.bckor.svmuser vehicle files. If the Airfield machine's models were saved with offset trims, reloading the model-or resetting the flight with the spacebar/red button-will continuously re-apply those off-center trim vectors. - Active Radio Gadget / Software Trim Shifts: If software trim buttons on the Interlink Elite were bumped, RF7 retains digital trim offsets across sessions until manually centered or wiped in the software UI.
Recommended Solution
To eliminate the local software corruption at the Airfield setup without affecting the controller hardware:
-
Clear Software Trim Settings:
- Launch RF7 and press
2on your keyboard (or go to Gadgets > Radio) to open the onscreen Radio Gadget. - Check the trim sliders next to the control sticks on screen. If any trim marker is highlighted in bright red, it is software-trimmed away from center.
- Adjust the digital trims on the controller until all onscreen markers turn grey/dimmed (indicating true software neutral).
- Launch RF7 and press
-
Reset the Airfield Controller Profile:
- Close RealFlight 7.
- Navigate to
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Documents\RealFlight 7\Radio\(orScripts\). - Backup and delete the
.xml/.inifile corresponding to the Interlink Elite controller. - Re-launch RealFlight 7 to force the application to recreate a clean controller configuration file from default templates.
-
Clone Working Config from the Living Room PC:
- If resetting the profile does not completely solve it, copy the entire
Documents\RealFlight 7folder from your working Living Room TV PC onto a flash drive and overwrite the corresponding folder on the Airfield PC. This syncs all controller definitions, deadzones, and model file trim states directly from the known-good setup.
- If resetting the profile does not completely solve it, copy the entire
Reinstallation consideration:
Short Answer: A standard reinstallation will likely NOT fix the problem by itself.
A basic uninstall and reinstall of RealFlight 7 typically leaves user preferences, radio calibration data, and custom vehicle trim files intact on the PC. Unless specific user profile directories are manually deleted during the process, the corrupted trim behavior will immediately return post-reinstall.
Why a Standard Reinstall Falls Short
Windows software installers deliberately separate core application program files from user-generated settings and configuration profiles. RealFlight 7 uses this standard directory structure:
| Directory Location | Content Stored | Removed on Normal Uninstall? |
|---|---|---|
C:\Program Files (x86)\RealFlight7 |
Core program executables, textures, stock models, and audio. | YES |
C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\RealFlight 7\ |
Controller deadzones/calibrations, radio gadget trim offsets, custom user vehicles, and preferences. | NO (Preserved) |
C:\ProgramData\RealFlight 7 |
License validation, registration, and system metadata. | NO (Preserved) |
Because the trim anomaly stems from corrupted or offset values stored in the Documents\RealFlight 7 folder, simply reinstalling the software reconnects the fresh program binaries right back to the uncleaned profile files.
How to Perform an Effective Clean Reinstall
If you prefer a full fresh reinstall at the Airfield setup to guarantee a completely clean state, follow these steps to clear out residual profile data:
- Uninstall RealFlight 7 via Control Panel or Windows Settings.
-
Manually Purge User Profile Data:
- Navigate to
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Documents\ - Delete or rename the entire
RealFlight 7folder. This removes all stored controller calibration curves, deadzones, and saved vehicle trim states.
- Navigate to
- Reinstall RealFlight 7 from your source files or disc.
- Connect Controller: Plug in your Interlink Elite controller. RealFlight 7 will treat it as a new hardware installation and generate clean, factory-default configuration files.
Faster Alternative: Profile Folder Replacement
Reinstalling the full software package takes unnecessary time. You can achieve the exact same clean outcome in two minutes without reinstalling the software:
- Copy the
Documents\RealFlight 7folder from your working Living Room TV PC onto a flash drive. - Paste and overwrite the existing
Documents\RealFlight 7folder on the Airfield PC.
This guarantees that all radio configurations, neutral calibration values, and vehicle trim presets match the proven-good Living Room environment exactly.
